Saline Breast Implants

Making the decision to have breast implants means that one must make several other decisions for the benefit of the look and feel of their new breast. Although the ratio of women who chose silicone breast over saline is more than 2:1 many women are interested in the benefits of saline implants and have unanswered questions. Saline implants were once criticized for feeling hard and unnatural but have come a long way since then and are constantly being improved with new technology and new techniques. Understanding the anatomy ones breast implants Los Angeles surgeons say is imperative to making the best choice for one's goal with breast implants.

Breast implants can be filled with saline or silicone gel and both have an outer casing made of silicone. Saline implants like silicone implants vary in sizes, shapes and profiles. The surface of the outer shell is another component of breast implants it can be smooth or textured. Saline breast implants Beverly Hills surgeons say can be placed in any of the various implants placement positions. The positions in which the implants can be placed include sub-glandular over the muscle, partial sub-muscular, 2/3 is covered by the muscle and complete sub-muscular under the muscle.

Placements of the saline implants tend to require a shorter incision than silicone implants do because saline implants are filled during surgery, after placement. Saline implants can be adjusted after surgery, the surgeon may use a syringe to remove or add liquid. Leading Los Angeles breast implants surgeons say a big advantage of saline implants is that if the implant were to rupture the saline (salt water solution) is harmless to the body and absorbed with no trace. However a factor that is seen as advantageous to some and disadvantageous to others is, when a saline implant ruptures it is obvious. The saline implant will deflate and the size difference is easily noticeable.

In Beverly Hills breast enhancement surgery is done most commonly and most women desire to have natural looking and feeling breast implants. Because silicone gel mimics human fat closely there are obviously the most natural feeling choice next to the balloon like saline implants; however placing the saline implant behind the chest muscle and slightly over filling it, is said to provide a natural breast tissue feel. Saline implants are best used in cases where women want large breast and this makes the saline implants look unnatural. Saline implants like silicone implants both have advantages and disadvantages the most important factor is whether they look or feel natural is size and placement.

Breast Implants in Plastic Surgery Hawaii

Breast implants are done to alter the shape and size of the breasts of a woman. This prosthesis plastic surgery process is also known as breast enlargement, mammoplasty enlargement, breast augmentation, and augmentation mammoplasty in medical terminology. In common slang, it is called boob job. Breast implants are resorted to mainly for cosmetic reasons for reconstructing the size of the breasts. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons inform that breast implants are among the most common cosmetic surgery procedures done in the U.S. The American Society of Plastic Surgery data reveals that this breast augmentation is the number one plastic surgery procedure in the U.S.

Breast implants are usually of two types, saline-filled implants and silicone gel-filled breast implants. In fact, the saline-filled implants also have a shell of silicone elastomer that had been filled with saline liquid made sterile before injection into the shell. The silicone gel implants have a similar silicone shell but the shell contains viscous silicone gel instead of sterile saline solution. The first breast implant is believed to have been done in 1889 with the adipose tissue of the woman and paraffin injections but that led to disastrous results. Several other substances like glass balls, ivory, ox cartilage, polyethylene chips, ground rubber, Terylene wool, dicora, gutta-percha, polyether foam sponge, Teflon-silicone prostheses, polyester silastic rubber, etc. had been tried during the last century. Even several creams and medications had been tried, apart from silicone injections in the 1950s.

Majority of the above procedures resulted in serious complications and many women were forced to have mastectomies even up to 30 years after these treatments. Hence, plastic surgery with saline and silicone gel breast implants became the standard norm. Such breast implants are done for primary reconstruction for replacing breast tissues removed because of cancer or trauma, revision reconstruction to improve or correct the original size of the breast, primary augmentation to enlarge the breasts for cosmetic reasons, and revision augmentation to correct results of previous breast augmentation procedure.

Plastic surgery Hawaii for breast augmentation through implants is done through various techniques. They are inframammary procedure, periareolar procedure, transaxillary procedure, transumbilical procedure, and transabdominoplasty procedure. The last two procedures are termed as TUBA and TABA. The saline and silicone gel implants had started from first generation level to fifth generation stage at present. These implants are highly-cohesive, solid, and form-stable type of implants. Since the gel in these implants is semi-solid type, the silicone migration possibility is eliminated. Studies had revealed that efficacy and safety had been potentially improved, compared to the previous generations of implants. The capsular rupture and contracture rates had also been low.

The U.S. FDA relabeled all breast implants as Class III medical devices in 1988. Later, the FDA had placed a moratorium in 1992 on all silicone gel implants for cosmetic purposes. In 1998, the FDA reviewed the situation and approved certain study protocols for silicone gel implants for limited number of reconstruction, revision, and augmentation. The saline-filled implants were approved by the FDA in 2000. At present, more than a million women had been estimated to have benefited from breast implants.
