Breast Lift

The breast lift is one of the most common and simple plastic surgery procedures that are currently offered in South Africa. This particular procedure is used to reshape sagging boobs and ensure a more youthful appearance is achieved. Breast lifts are often done in conjunction with a breast enlargement or even breast reduction.

A breast lift procedure has a number of techniques that can be used. The technique used will greatly depend on the age and preferences of the patient. Some techniques are designed to not affect the ability to breastfeed after surgery. Other procedures could eliminate such a possibility and it is up to the patient to decide what best suits their needs. If the procedure is carried out under the breasts, a shorter and less visible scar is often achieved. General anaesthesia is used for the procedure while some patients choose to have the procedure carried out under conscious sedation with local anaesthesia. If you are considering a breast lift you must take a few precautions such as not smoking for at least 6 weeks prior to the procedure along with a mammogram which is usually recommended.

The shape of your breasts and their size will be a determining factor as to how the surgeon carries out the procedure. A popular technique is thekeyhole incision for cosmetic breast elevation and it results in a scar around the areola, a vertical component and a cut under the breast. The vertical scar results in beautiful breasts that are created by lifting the breasts through the areola and a vertical incision, with no cut under the breast and finally the peri-areolar incision is accomplished using an incision placed in the interface of colour on the border of the actual areola.
